Aim:

Task 2 aims to develop and compare sustainable macroalgae production systems across land-based, IMTA, monoculture, and wild-harvest settings. It focuses on optimising cultivation, harvesting, preservation, and seasonal performance to improve biomass yield, nutritional quality, and economic efficiency. The task also establishes robust logistics and supply-chain models to enable scalable and cost-effective blue bioeconomy feedstock production.

Activities & Outputs

Design, construction, and operation of land-based and open-sea macroalgae cultivation sites (IMTA, monoculture, and wild harvest).
Development and testing of energy-efficient on-site preservation methods
Comparative datasets on yield, nutritional quality, seasonality, and production economics.
Preserved macroalgae biomass for downstream processing and analysis.
Establishment of logistics, supply-chain protocols, and transport models for biomass handling.
